We offer laser-assisted periodontal therapy for our patients who suffer from periodontal disease. Periodontal disease is an inflammation caused by the body’s immune response to the bacteria, toxins and other deposits which build up on the supporting structures of your teeth. The inflammation spreads to the supporting tissue around your teeth, including bone, ligaments and sockets. Patients suffering from periodontal disease notice pronounced bleeding, swollen gums, puffiness, sensitivity and tender spots. Slight to severe bone loss can also be seen on x-rays, depending on how far the disease has progressed. Periodontal disease doesn’t just affect your gums. It can affect your overall body health, including complications related to diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease, heart disease and other medical concerns.
With laser assisted periodontal therapy, we use a soft tissue laser to decrease the number of periodontal pathogens, and eliminate diseased tissue around all the teeth being treated. The laser vaporizes the targeted diseased tissue, and provides simultaneous coagulation of blood vessels. This leads to an optimal environment for fast healing. Laser assisted periodontal therapy used along with other therapies has been shown to be much more effective long term than scaling and root planing alone. It also has the benefit of minimal discomfort, greater pocket reduction, and better tissue stability long after the procedure.
If you suffer from periodontal disease, or have noticed increased bleeding and sensitivity in your gums, schedule an appointment today. We’ll determine a treatment plan which is right for you.
